One of the perks of having the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver is tht we will finally get freedom of speech protection in certain zones. While is wasn’t the real free speech that we had hoped for, it is better than what we had… wait a minute…
We used to have freedom of speech enshrined in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms!
Everyone has the following fundamental freedoms:
(a) freedom of conscience and religion;
(b) freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression, including freedom of the press and other media of communication;
(c) freedom of peaceful assembly; and
(d) freedom of association.”
These new “Free Speech Zones” take away three of the four fundamental freedoms that we used to enjoy. If giving up our rights is the only way we can host the Olympics, then lets cancel them now.
